For Giving Tuesday 2024, we are highlighting one special cat that is in desperate need of your help.
Connie has been an AAC resident for 2 years now, and in the time that she has been with us she has been diagnosed with a condition called Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS), which is also commonly known as Twitchy Cat Syndrome or Rolling Skin Disease.
This is a rare condition that unfortunately does not have much in depth research available on it yet. What we do know is that the average cat will develop this condition between one to five years of age, it is frequently misdiagnosed as other conditions, and it is something that they must live with and treat for their entire lives.
The common symptoms that Connie experiences on a daily basis are: twitching of the skin on her lower back, suddenly jumping or running as if startled, chasing, biting, and scratching her own tail and the skin around it, and intense pain when she is touched in the lower half of her body, which sends her into a seizure-like episode.
Connie is only about 3 years old, and still has her entire life ahead of her. While there is no cure for FHS, there are treatments that she can receive to lessen her symptoms and improve her quality of life.
Connie deserves happiness and comfort just like any of our other cats here, and now that we finally have a diagnosis for what causes her so much pain, we want to do everything that we can to help her in the time that she is with us, and to set her up on the path to adoption.
We are asking our supporters to assist us in doing this by donating to our Giving Tuesday campaigns and sharing them with the people in your life. Connie can’t ask for your help, so we are doing it for her.
